Depth of Field (DOF) is the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image.
One technique that many photographers use to add a ‘wow factor’ to their images is to shoot with a shallow depth of field. In doing so they isolate part of the shot which is nicely in focus while throwing elements in the background (and sometimes the foreground) out of focus and into a blur. Doing this will make the focused section of the image pop put of the page.
You can also use this technique to disguise objects/people in the background that are taking away from the main focus. (photobomber)
You will be creating the illusion of DOF in Photoshop. The tools you will be using include.
- Duplicating Layers
- selection tools -choose areas you want to "blur"
- Filter >Blur>Gaussian Blur
- Opacity
- Sharpen tool (looks like a cone)
- Blur tool (looks like a rain drop)
- Eraser / Brushes / Diameter
You will have the rest of the class period to edit your blog .
-Create a contact sheet for your DOF shoot and post it on your blogs home page.
